Artist Statement

I'm an avid people watcher and observer of everyday life. Using thick paint, rich colors, and gestural brush work, I explore moments when people are caught in the act of being themselves, absorbed in what they’re doing, and unaware of the unique beauty surrounding them.  By reading their body language, I imagine who they might be, often adding a touch of whimsy to the mix. Although my work is triggered by direct observation, the paintings are developed from visual memories — the after-image that remains in my mind's eye. This process allows me to move freely between observation, memory, and invention. By expanding and distilling my original experience, I present a glimpse into an extraordinary world, one that lies hidden in plain sight.
